WOW! Almost 1,000 chemical demonstrations! Read or view the best chemistry demonstrations, experiments and lab activities.
If you like to perform holiday demonstrations, this one’s for you! In this demonstration, a flask containing a clear solution is shaken, turning the solution into a pink valentine solution. Then by allowing the solution to sit undisturbed, it will fade back to colourless. The cycle can be repeated many times.
A great related demonstration relating to Valentine’s Day is The Vanishing Valentine.
A collection of flowers turns different colours upon spraying. Students are impressed—why are various colours obtained with different indicators? Add an aesthetic touch to your science classroom with this unusual demonstration of acid–base properties.
Design a battery using metal strips and a lemon or an orange.
Add some sparkle to your next holiday celebration by making ornaments of borax crystals. Simply dissolve sodium borate in hot water, suspend a shaped chenille wire into the solution and wait. The next day remove a beautiful crystal-covered ornament from the solution!
The mass of an atom is concentrated in its nucleus—a small, dense region with a diameter about 1/100,000 that of the atom. Most of the size of an atom is apparently empty space!
Since its discovery, the Periodic Table has been the most recognized symbol of chemistry and the most important tool for understanding the chemistry of the elements and their properties, trends and relationships. Digital PDF collection of Volume 4 of the best-selling Flinn ChemTopic™ Labs series of lab manuals!
